Module Two Question 1 Describe one of the beliefs and values of the Navajo as illustrated in your readings. Conflict resolution is based on the belief of talking things over. Disputes are settled by a small group of people discussing issues and forming a solution together. Module Two Question 2 Describe one way in which the Navajo have incorporated their beliefs and values into the societal structure on the reservation since regaining some autonomy in the 1970's. Healthcare - some places have reintegrated traditional healing practices in order to protect the culture of Navajo people. Their traditional methods include the use of herbs, song, and ceremonies. The Indian Religious Freedom Act of 1978 protects the right of the Navajo people to use methods that they feel will be beneficial to their health Module Two Question 3 What beliefs and values can be found in your culture? How do these beliefs and values influence your day-to-day life? I believe in a more holistic method of healing. I believe very strongly in energy and the type of people, places, and things that we surround ourselves with greatly effect our overall health and well being. I will go to the doctor if I am sick, but I will also use herbal teas and essential oils before I pick up the phone to make an appointment. I don't have any specific cultural identity, I pick a few things up here and there and attempt some sort of mindfulness. Module Two Question 4 Adopt the social science perspective to create a list of questions about this issue. Write at least two questions each from the point of view of a psychologist, a sociologist, and an anthropologist. 1. What affect does denial of treatment have on the idividuals state of mind? 2. What affect does denial of treatment have on the LGBTQ+ community as a whole? 3. What affect does denial of treatment have on the availability of healthcare for
LGBTQ+ individuals throughout the nation? 4. Is denial of treatment for LGBTQ+ individuals ethical? 5. Is denial of treatment for LGBTQ+ individuals legal? 6. What resources are available for the LGBTQ+ community and how can these resources help with adequate healthcare for individuals within the community?
