Explain your selected country’s society and their culture.
The people of Brazil are a combination of indigenous, Portuguese, African
with all having a major influence on current day culture. However, the
Portuguese influence is the most dominant and is the primary reason
Portuguese is the national language of Brazil. Brazilian culture is defined by
very close or tightknit family structure with many within society still following
traditional gender roles. The majority of Brazilians worship as Roman
Catholics with the practitioners of that particular religion making up over
two-thirds of the population. Brazilians are known to enjoy outdoor activities,
a very rhythmic society with many dancing Samba. Brazil is also known for
its festivities mainly Carnival which is one if its better-known national
celebrations.
Differences between Brazilian and U.S cultures
Some differences between Brazil and the U.S is that in general Brazilians are
a more collective society with a greater emphasis on the extended family.
With many living in very close proximity to one another. This is in contrast to
the more American culture of individualism. Americans are encouraged to
leave home, seek out the world, and "make it". Brazil in comparison to the
U.S is higher in power distance, higher in uncertainty avoidance and higher
in long term orientation (Hofstede-insights) Brazilians will tend to look
forward and persevere towards a better future Brazilians believe hierarchy
should be respected whereas in the U.S everyone is special. (Green& Keegan
2020). From an entertainment perspective the most popular sport is soccer
in Brazil.
Similarities between Brazil and the
United States
One major similarity between the two countries is physical appearance and
the need to look a certain way. Brazil leads the world in cosmetic surgery
surpassing the U.S. (Farber 2021) Both countries are federal republics.
Determine what social, cultural, political, or legal or regulatory
characteristics you would need to take advantage of to avoid unneeded and
costly adaptations of the marketing mix.
Brazil is the largest market in Latin America and according to some estimates
