Lesson

focus
:
Students will be able to read from left to right, from top to bottom and the students will be able to
read page by page when reading from a book.
Classroom and
student factors
:
The class is made up of 15 students, teacher, and paraprofessional. Students are non-challenged
students and struggling readers. The students will be divided in two groups. The struggling
readers in one group while the non-challenged students in another group. Class is made up of
African Americans and Caucasians it is a mixture of struggling students four Caucasians and
three African Americans. Struggling students will be given one on one teaching, while the non-
challenge students if finish before time will be given extra work.

Teaching notes:
This reading plan will activate the student’s prior
knowledge. Students will be able to make connection and
prediction about what they are reading from the text.
Agenda:
Students will gather in a group for a read aloud
session. Class will participate
in a group, and
students will pair into two groups. In the group they
will be given a book to discuss after the read aloud
and the students will be paired according to their
abilities. The read aloud will last for 20 minutes each
session for three days a week.
Formative assessment:
I will monitor and identify the progress by giving students a
multiple-choice questionnaire assessment. I will ask the
questions and ask the students which answers do they choose
from, and the answer will be from A to C.

grammar. The students will
identify their knowledge by
repeating the words and
telling where the punctuation
belongs.
Form:
Dick and Jane come with
organized vocabulary and
the students will be able to
go over the words before
reading and then retell the
words as they see them in
the book. Students will be
shown where punctuation
belongs and ask to place
them where they belong for
practice.

Materials,
Equipment and
Technology:
Students will use computers, white boards, Videos, Pencil, Paper, and audio.
Grouping:
The first group which is the struggling students. I will work one on one with the struggling readers
and the Paraprofessional will sit at the normal group table to ensure they are doing their work
until I can finish with the struggling readers. Struggling readers as I read aloud will be asked to
listen very carefully and when finish demonstrate what they have learned from the read out loud.

The lessons connect to prior knowledge because each student have the Dick and Jane book at home,
so they are familiar with the vocabulary words, grammar, and punctuation. It gives diverse cultures
the opportunity to learn about a book that have been around for centuries.

The book is meaningful because it teaches about the closeness of family and what unity looks like in a
family and the children playing with their parents illustrates a happy family life.
