MAE 111 Information Literacy Homework to be completed after Tutorial 1 1) If you could pick any product to work on in the field of mechanical or aerospace engineering, what would it be? If you’re not sure, check out the ASME magazine and other ASME content or aerospace research central or AIAA ’s magazine, Aerospace America (accessed via the library research guide , as shown in class) and pick 1-3 products/projects/tasks that you’d like to know more about. 2) Write down 3 questions about the job or jobs that you picked. 3) Write down keywords that you could search with to find the answers to your questions 4) Using the search engine of your choice, write down which search engine you used and how many sources were found 5) Write down different keyword sets (at least 2 keywords) with 3 different connecting words and how using connecting words could help you answer each question. Explain what you think the results of a search would be using these connecting words (e.g., more or less sources, more relevant sources, etc.) 6) Using the search engine used in number 4, enter the keyword sets identified in number 5. Were your predictions correct? 7) Using quotations to identify 2 keyword phrases that can be used to search for answers to your research questions. Write down the phrases and how that changed the results of your search (e.g., more or less sources, more or fewer relevant sources, etc.). 8) Using the results of any of the searches performed in questions 3-5, upload a source you found that you think will answer one of the 3 questions listed in question 2. Explain why you choose that source.
