CJ 112 Module Six Assignment Template: Allied Professionals Within the U.S. Justice System Complete this template by replacing the bracketed text with the relevant information. Address each of the items in the table. Write four to five sentences in each cell. Law Enforcement Courts Corrections Victim advocate is a trained allied professional who assists victims of a crime. Some of the responsibilities of a VA is to have excellent listening skills, strong communication abilities. Must be organized and emotionally supportive. Victim Advocate provide victims with info on how cases proceed, how the court proceedings take place and help victims secure required paperwork and filling it out as well as securing services through the VA program or such services in the community that are available. Guardian ad Litem is a trained voluntary position that is appointed by the court to advocate on behalf of a child who may be either neglected, abused or at risk. They meet with the child, interact, support, listen and can make home, school visits, anything that would be beneficial for the child and for the court to know about the child and circumstances, situation and or needs of the child. The guardian ad litem advises the court to give them accurate and up to date information, recommendations and observation of the child and situation so that the court can make decisions on what is best for the child now and in the future. The Guardian ad litem must be a respectful, kind, gentle, fair, organized and responsible individual who can deal with situations that can be emotionally and physically challenging. They must be able to speak on behalf of the child to the court, school, counselor any entity that may be able to assist gaining information to help Guardian ad Litem provide accurate and complete referrals to the court for the best interest of the child. Private prisons help relieve overcrowding. Day to day responsibility of employing, function and running of the prison is done by the private company. Private run prisons help with cost both of maintaining the building, keeping inmates and staff safe and continuum of the professionalism of all correctional offices and other staff. Correction offers and other staff dealing with inmates in any jail must have excellent communication skills, training to keep up to date on professional standards and laws. They must possess good listening skills, deal with men and woman who are incarcerated and not happy about conditions, food etc. and prioritize the complaints and be empathetic and not unprofessional or disrespectful. They must be able to handle snap of the finger situations and stress and highly strenuous situations. Attention to detail for reports, write ups, communication with inmates, investigations etc. is all very important. Following the law and policy and procedures of the facility/county and state are also paramount. A goodwill ambassador is known to the Stenographers, court reporters, Mental health professionals in a jail can be

A goodwill ambassador requires strong interpersonal skills, understanding, knowledge of the events and its importance to the community/globe. Cultural awareness is needed as dealing with many nationalities, communities, and ethnic groups. Strong writing skills, kind and caring personality as well as translators, and transcribers all must have excellent listening skills, pay attention to detail, they document and create. Court reporters and stenographers’ translators and transcribers collectively create an official record of all court proceedings which helps judges and legal teams with a written chronological documentation of everything going on within a case and this helps all involved make decisions based on information in this detailed record. It also helps to keep facts accurate and wording on testimony etc. accurate and descriptive and detailed. The record is dictated and documented exactly as stated so nothing goes without documentation or clarity if needed. a jail, prison, outside facility that deals with parolees, probationers, inmates. house etc. Must be able to recognize those inmates do not always communicate well and that prison life can be in and of itself mentally challenging. Must help if needed to learn coping skills, and beneficial ways to behave and live-in a less than normal environment. The skills needed are excellent listening, writing skills, ability to empathize but also sympathize, understand complex personal issues with inmates, family dynamics of inmates and help them deal with things that everyday people may not understand. Addiction and mental health and conflict resolution are just a few issues that many inmates or other correctional controlled individuals may require services for. Must be able to recommend and refer to services if not available within jail, halfway Community service aides are like the police but not formally educated/trained. The community aides assist the community law enforcement officers they are responsible to in observing areas in the community, contact helping agencies if needed, be on lookout for any crime or goings on that may requires law enforcement. They provide community services that do not require a certified officer. Strong observation and writing skills are required as reporting important information and details is key to helping police or the community if assistance is requested or required. They are employed or unpaid volunteers who are responsible to the agency in which they are under example, local police or county sheriff very significant in the court. They assist with competency of defendants, evaluate violent offenders, and provide professional opinion as to if a defendant is competent to stand trial or has mental health issues and needs further psychiatric services. All this information can help the court surmise how to proceed and if it is probably or unlikely. They can consult with attorneys to help understand the different types of mental health issues in particular situations to name just a few of the instances where a counselor or psychologist is of great importance in our criminal justice system. These allied professions must have excellent listening skills, organization, ability to understand complexity of mental health and many diagnoses and issues that can arise and how they can affect a person in such an instance of arrest, trial etc. Must be empathetic as well as sympathetic, be able to be unbiased, an effective speaker, clear and understandable so as a non- medical layman can understand. criminal background, be aware of their surroundings, speak clearly and be understood, be able to deal with stress and realize that at times there may be situations that are out of the normal and must be able to follow procedures set in place and act accordingly.
