Oshea Penn HCM-345 Short Paper April 24, 2022 Reflections Although working in my current role as a prior authorization specialist, I already knew a lot about the revenue cycle and the healthcare reimbursement process. It did give me a more in depth look at how the process is handled and what all goes into it. I believe that the need for data collection is very important. Data collection is one of the key sources that help make sure all information in a patients account is accurate and up to date. During this course I have learned that there are many steps in the revenue cycle and reimbursement process. There are several departments who have a major impact in the reimbursement process. The biggest department is the registration department; this department must make sure that all patient demographics are correct and that we have the most up to date insurance information for the patient. Without this important information the reimbursement process would be at a standstill, and no one would be able to get reimbursed properly. What I’ve learned that is most important is that making sure all information is correct and accurate. Making sure that everything you put into a patients account is in fact their information. If providers and organizations are keeping up with compliance regarding properly documenting, coding, and billing then this will make the claim and reimbursement process run smoothly and efficiently.
These concepts could help me in my future position in a healthcare facility by accurately submitting patient information and making sure that all documentation is correct. These concepts can also help with properly going through the motions of the revenue and reimbursement process when something is not correct in a patients account and trying to figure out how to correct it. This class has taught me how to properly document and look for information that does not seem correct or is out of place and trying to find a way to fix this and stay in compliance with all rules and regulations.
