Concept Introduction:

Reaction stoichiometry is defined to determine relationships between chemical amounts of reactants and products in a balanced chemical reaction. Reaction stoichiometry is utilized to predict amount of reactants that react in a chemical reaction based on the moles of products that formed and vice versa. Relative amount of each substance in moles is specified by the coefficients in a balanced chemical equation.

In a chemical reaction, limiting reagent is the reactant that gives how much of the products are made. The other reactants are consumed and formed in accordance to stoichiometry. A limiting reagent is a reagent that gets consumed up first and limits the reaction. The product formation will depend upon the amount of limiting reagent.
