Chapter EN, Problem 23PQ
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

The processes that have ΔS negative has to be determined.

Concept Introduction:

ΔS is a thermodynamic state function that is known as change in entropy. It depends on initial and final state of a system. In an ideal reversible process, no change in entropy occurs and in an irreversible process, the entropy always increases. If entropy is negative, then reaction is non-feasible and when entropy is positive then reaction is feasible.

Entropy is associated to phase change which produces more dispersed particles as is the case with melting or boiling process. Condensing or freezing would be associated with decrease in entropy.
