The given differential equation for the path, that is, the Tractrix is,

On integrating both sides we get.

  y=1x1x2dx+1x1x2dx=sech1(x)1x2+c

Now applying the known conditions, that is x=1 when  y=0

Thus,

  C=0y=sec1(x)1x2
