Removing a Slump A farmer wishes to remove a stump from a field by pulling it out with his tractor. Having removed many stumps before, he estimates that he will need 6 tons (12,000 pounds) of force to remove the stump. However, his tractor is only capable of pulling with a force of 7000 pounds, so he asks his neighbor to help. His neighbor’s tractor can pull with a force of 5500 pounds. They attach the two tractors to the stump with a angle between the forces, as shown in the figure.
(a) Assuming the farmer's estimate of a needed 6-ton force is correct, will the farmer be successful in removing the stump? Explain.
(b) Had the farmer arranged the tractors with a angle between the forces, would he have been successful in removing the stump? Explain.

You define the variable of interest as the strength of the insulators. If the insulators break when in use, a short circuit is likely. To test the strength of the insulators, you carry out destructive testing to determine how much force is required to break the insulators. You measure force by observing how many pounds are applied to the insulator before it breaks. You collect the force data for 30 insulators selected for the experiment and find out that the mean force is 1670. Based on that, you construct an interval from 1570 to 1770 and claim that this interval can be one of the 95% intervals around the sample means that contain the population mean force. - A cowboy spins a lasso in an approximately circular shape, with a starting circumference of 10 feet. The force on the rope pulls it through the slip-knot so that the circle's circumference decreases by 1 foot per second. 2 Part A: Determine a formula that describes the lasso's circumference, in feet, t seconds after the cowboy starts spinning it. C= Part B: After how long will the lasso's circle vanish? seconds Answer: Part C: The circumference of a circle is also C = 2mr. Use this formula to give the radius of the circle as a function of time. - Arrows A team of anthropologists headed by researcher Nicole Waguespack studied the difference between stone-tipped and wooden-tipped arrows. Stone arrow tips are tougher, but also take longer to make. Many cultures usedboth types of arrow tips, including the Apache in NorthAmerica and the Tiwi in Australia. The researchers setup a compound bow with 60 lbs. of force. They shotarrows of both types into a hide-covered ballistics gel.(Waguespack, Nicole, et. al., Antiquity, 2009)a) Here are the data for seven shots at the target with awooden tip.
