Introduction:

Synovial joints may be divided into six basic categories based on the degrees of flexibility and forms of their articular surfaces. The upper limb has all six categories. One multiaxial type (ball-and-socket), three biaxial kinds (condylar, saddle, and plane), and two monaxial varieties are given here in decreasing order of mobility (hinge and pivot).
