A lever's purpose is to increase a motion's speed, distance, or force, either by applying more force to a resistant item than was applied to the lever itself or by moving the object more quickly or further than the effort arm is moving. Both benefits cannot be granted by a single lever. Force and speed or distance are in opposition to one another; as one grows, the other decreases.
