There are six skeletal muscles thathelp in the movement of the eyeball in various directions; they are known as extrinsic eye muscles. These muscles include superior rectus, inferior rectus, medial rectus, lateral rectus, superior oblique muscle, and inferior oblique muscle. They are named on the basis of their structure, location, and actions.
