Interpretation: To assign the effect of isotonic solution on human body.

Concept Introduction:

➢ Osmosis is the process in which the solvent moves towards the higher concentrated solution from a lower concentrated solution via a semi-permeable membrane.

➢ A hypotonic solution is any solution that has a lower osmotic pressure than another solution.

➢ A hypertonic solution is any solution that has a higher osmotic pressure than another solution.

➢ An isotonic solution refers to two solutions having the same osmotic pressure across a semi-permeable membrane.

The isotonic state allows for the free movement of water across the membrane without changing the concentration of solutes on the either sides.

➢ Dialysis is the separation of particles in a liquid on the basis of differences in their ability to pass through a membrane.
