Chapter 9, Problem 85E
Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation:

In the reaction occurring between antimony (III) sulfide and hydrochloric acid which forms antimony (III) chloride and hydrogen sulfide gas, the STP volume of H2S produced from a 3.00-g sample of stibnite is to be calculated.

Concept introduction:

Chemical reactions are represented by chemical equations. In a chemical equation the reactants are represented on the left of the arrow while the products are represented on the right of the arrow.

Stoichiometric coefficient is the number preceding each symbol in a reaction which determines the moles of the reactants and products in the reaction.

According to Avogadro’s hypothesis, at same pressure and temperature conditions, equal volume of the gases contains same amount of gas particles. At standard temperature and pressure conditions, 1mol of gas occupies a volume equal to 22.4L.

personality of each of them in terms of nucleophile vs. electrophile (some can be considered acids/bases but we are not looking at that here). Note you may have to use your growing intuition to figure out the personality of one of the molecules below but I believe in you! Rationalize it out based on what we have called strong versus weak electrophiles in past mechanisms. Consider using the memes below to help guide your understanding!
