Introduction :
Mitosis is a method of cell division in which a cell divides into two identical daughter cells. This division completed in five different phases namely prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase. The stage of mitosis is shown in the diagram is the anaphase.

Answer to Problem 2STP
Correct answer :
The correct answer is option (A) anaphase.
Explanation of Solution
Explanation/justification for the correct answer :
Option (A) anaphase. The stage of mitosis is shown in the diagram is the anaphase. It is the shortest phase of mitosis. During this phase, centromeres divide. The sister chromatids get separated and move to the opposite poles of the cell. Pulling apart of chromatids happens due to pulling of spindle fibres. Thus, the correct answer is an option (A).
The explanation for the incorrect answer :
Option (B) interphase. Interphase is the first and longest phase of the cell. During this phase cell prepares for its division. Thus, this is an incorrect option.
Option (C) metaphase. During metaphase of mitosis, all the chromosomes are arranged at the equatorial plate of the cell. The diagram does show such structure. Thus, this is an incorrect answer.
Option (D) telophase. In the telophase, the spindle breaks from the chromatids and begins to disappear. The nuclear membrane starts to form around each of the daughter chromosomes. Thus, this is an incorrect answer.
