To locate:

The landmarks that help in the location of the gluteal muscle in a patient.

Introduction:

The gluteal region is formed by the association of the following muscles:

• Gluteus medius
• Gluteus minimus
• Gluteus maximus

The various significant nerves and vessels pass beneath this muscular region. The cutaneous nerves passing through the thigh region, if damaged can lead to the condition, known as gluteal gait. The intramuscular injection of medications is given to the patient to prevent any damage to the nerves passing through it and the blood vessels beneath the muscular region.
