Interpretation:
The sequence of arrow pushing pattern in the given ionic mechanism has to be identified.
Concept Introduction:
Mechanism of a reaction can be explained by use of the arrow-pushing pattern. The arrows used in the mechanism are curved arrows. The tail of the arrow is placed in a way that from where the migration starts and the head of the arrow is placed where the migration ends.
In ionic mechanisms there are only four arrow-pushing patterns. They are,
- 1 Nucleophilic attack
- 2 Proton Transfer
- 3 Loss of leaving group
- 4 Rearrangement of carbocation
If two arrow-pushing pattern has occurred in a single step itself means then it is known as concerted process.
