Interpretation Introduction

Interpretation: A tank of oxygen holds 20.0L of oxygen (O2) at a pressure of 15.0 atm. Calculate the volume, in litres, of this gas when it is released at a pressure of 1.00 atm with no change in temperature and amount of gas

Concept Introduction:

Pressure is caused by the rapid motion of the molecules of the substance, particularly gas, with the walls of the container in which the gas is kept.

According to the ideal gas equation:

PV = nRT

Where, P = Pressure of Ideal Gas

V = Volume of Gas

n = Number of moles of gas

R = Gas Constant

T = Temperate in Kelvin

From the above equation, we get that Pressure is inversely proportional to the Volume. Thus, if pressure increases, then volume decreases and vice versa.
