Concept explainers
Explain whether the conditions toconstruct the confidence interval are satisfied or not.
Answer to Problem 27E
All three conditions for confidence interval is not satisfied.
Explanation of Solution
Given Information:
Total number of seniors = 175
Number of success = 14
To calculate a confidence interval three conditions should be satisfied. the conditions are Random, Independent and Normal.
Condition of random is satisfied since, Latoya randomly interviewed seniors living in the dormitory.
The sample size is more than 10% of total number of the population of the seniors in the dormitory. Therefore 10% condition is not met. Thus, condition for independence is not satisfied.
In the survey the number of success is 14 is greater than 10. Thus, the condition of normal is satisfied.
Hence, all three conditions for confidence interval is not satisfied.
