Introduction:

Transcription is the process of copying the genetic information from the template strand of the DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) to RNA (ribonucleic acid). The enzyme complex involved in this process is called RNA polymerase. It consists of a protein that is involved in the polymerization of RNA (core enzyme) and a protein needed to initiate transcription (sigma factor). Sigma factor helps RNA polymerase to recognize the transcription start site or the promoter site.
