Describe the proper procedure for transporting a total station instrument in the field.

The proper procedure for transporting a total station instrument in the field.
Explanation of Solution
For surveying a given plot the instrument is moved from one station to other station for collection of required data and for accuracy. For any instrument care should be taken while handling it.
Proper handling and care should be taken while moving the instrument as mishandling may cause damage to the instrument and may cause inaccuracy of calculation.
The following steps are to be followed for transporting a total station instrument in the field:
- For moving from one station to other first mark a temporary mark which is used for centering.
- Even for a very small distance a total station should be carried in a locked hard case.
- Do not remove the total station from the hard case till the tripod is fixed firmly on the ground.
- A total station should not be carried on the tripod except for centering.
- A total station should be handled with both hands.
- Total station handle should not be removed till the tripod’s fixing screw is fixed.
- Care should be taken that the tripod is fixed as firmly as possible.
- Always make sure the parts of the total station such as top of the tripod, bottom and top of tribarch and bottom of total station is clean and away from shock.
- Care should be taken while removing a tribarch from the total station.

- Assume a Space Launch System (Figure 1(a)) that is approximated as a cantilever undamped single degree of freedom (SDOF) system with a mass at its free end (Figure 1(b)). The cantilever is assumed to be massless. Assume a wind load that is approximated with a concentrated harmonic forcing function p(t) = posin(ωt) acting on the mass. - For the system shown in Figure 2, u(t) and y(t) denote the absolute displacements of Building A and Building B, respectively. The two buildings are connected using a linear viscous damper with damping coefficient c. Due to construction activity, the floor mass of Building B was estimated that vibrates with harmonic displacement that is described by the following function: y(t) = yocos(2πft).
