Concept explainers
NASA is designing a mission to explore Titan, the largest moon of Saturn Titan has numerous hydrocarbon lakes containing a mix of liquid methane and liquid ethane in unknown proportions. As part of the mission, a small submersible vehicle will explore Kraken Mare, the largest of these lakes. Assuming the maximum depth of Kraken Mare is less than 400 meters [m], how much total pressure in units of atmospheres [atm] must the submersible be designed to withstand? Assume the surface pressure on Titan is 147 kilopascals [kPa], the surface temperature is 94 kelvins [K], and the gravity is 1.35 meters per second squared [m/s2]. The specific gravity of liquid methane is 0.415 and the specific gravity of liquid ethane is 0.546.

Don't submit the wrong solution it will be downvoted. [Carefully handle the units and use the correct formula]arrow_forwardRevisit Example 6 from your Module 4 notes. Consider the well-insulated, rigid tank having a volume of 10 [ft']. Previously, it contained saturated water vapor at 212°F at state 1. The water was rapidly stirred until the pressure was 20 [lbfin'). In class we showed that the temperature at state 2 was 445°F and the work done during this process was -31.3 (Btu]. Now, if insulation were removed from the tank, and the water is cooled at constant volume from T2 = 445°F to T3= 300°F without stirring the water, determine: a) The pressure at the state 3 in [Ibfin*), and b) The heat transfer during the process in [Btu).arrow_forward

This relationship between speed and engine power for the Gofaster model XP9 is: [mph]3 = 9600 [hp]. The XP9 has a 180 hp engine. What is its max speed on a level road in still air?arrow_forward
- must be correctarrow_forwardA Venturi Tube develops low pressure on its throat, which can suck water from a deposit located under it. Assuming permanent flux with no losses, calculate the V1 necessaryto suck water from the deposit to the throat. D1 = 15 [mm]; D2 = 37 [mm]; h = 163 [mm]; pa = 101325 [Pa] (atmospheric pressure). The [L]-m long uniform beam has a mass of mB] kg and is welded to block A at point B (i.e. the beam is cantilevered at point B). Friction in the guide is negligible. The dimensions of block A are unknown. A B L (a) Calculate the acceleration a (magnitude and direction) of block A and the attached beam. Hint: Treat the block and beam as one lumped mass. - Solve it correctly please. I will rate accordinglyarrow_forwardA motor has circular cylinders with a 3.875 inch diameter. The height of the cylinder is 4.7 inches and has an ideal gas The piston moves up in the cylinder and compresses the ideal gas. At the end of compression, the cylinder has a volume of 7.37 cubic inches The amount of gas and the temperature of the gas stay the same during compression and the initial pressure in the cylinder is 1.2 atmosphere [atm]. Find the pressure after compression in units of pounds-force per square inch [psi].arrow_forwardI need the answer as soon as possiblearrow_forward
