Magnetic tape drives are the primary storage device used in first generation computers.
It is a sequential storage device, so that the data are accessed in sequential order that is one after another.
- When compared to disk drive, tape drive can read part of data by physically winding the tape between rolls. This results in very slow average seeking times.
