Concept explainers
A set of measurable parameters with values specific to the product that together define the product is called the specifications. These parameters are either physical properties of the product or the capabilities of the product. Log on to the Internet to extract the specifications of a product and to identify these two classes of specifications.
The specifications of a product and to identify the two classes of specifications
Explanation of Solution
Product Specification is a document which provides critical defining information about a product and it includes the identification of the manufacturer. The designer of the product should take care that the product meets its specifications. Product specification contains a product identification and detailed description of the product.
Physical properties of the product includes the study of matter
Example-absorption, area, brittleness of material, etc.
Product capability is the output of the product which is needed by the customer.
The two classes of specification are as follows.
1. Prescriptive specification-This type of specification deals with the clauses for the methods of construction. Most of the projects are a part of prescriptive specification.
2. Performance specification -This type of specification deals with the product performance and for how long the product is good to go. It covers all the performance characteristics of the product.

- A dealer of white goods buys washing machines from Arçelik. In their next order, they plan to buy two models for which the related data are as follows: Washing machine model 2. Annual demand (units) 6800 8500 Ordering cost (TL) 125 125 Unit purchasing cost (TL) 2400 1900 Transportation cost per unit (TL.) 250 220 The dealer has allocated a budget of 23,000 TL for the transportation of the machines from the factory.
