Being the First to See the Rising Sun Cadillac Mountain, elevation 1530 feet, is located in Acadia National Park. Maine, and is the highest peak on the east coast of the United States. It is said that a person standing on the summit will be the first person in the United States to see the rays of the rising Sun. How much sooner would a person atop Cadillac Mountain see the first rays than a person standing below, at sea level? [ Hint: Consult the figure. When the person at D sees the first rays of the Sun, the person at F does not. The person at F sees the first rays of the Sun only after Earth has rotated so that F is at location Q . Compute the length of the arc subtended by the central angle θ . Then use the fact that at the latitude of Cadillac Mountain, in 24 hours a length of 2 π ( 2710 ) ≈ 17 , 027.4 miles is subtended.]

A dowsing rod is a "Y" or "L" shaped instrument that some believe can find ground water. Many dowsers today use a pair of simple L-shaped metal rods. One rod is held in each hand, with the short arm of the L held upright, and the long arm pointing forward. When something is found, the rods cross over one another
making an "X" over the found object. Skeptics of dowsing conducted an experiment to see if dowsing rods could find ground water. Five identical 3 foot by 3 foot plots of land were sectioned off and a container of water was buried in one of the plots. A summary of the experiment results and the output for the
goodness-of-fit test follow. Choose the correct null and alternative hypothesis.

O A. Ho: The dowsing rods work better at locating ground water than guessing.
Summary and output
Ha: The dowsing rods work no better at locating ground water than guessing.
O B. Ho: The dowsing rods correctly identify the location of ground water…
A pedestal is 5.43 feet tall, and a statue is placed on top of it. A spotlight on the floor lights up the pedestal and statue.
[a] The angle of elevation from the spotlight to the bottom of the statue is 57 degrees ,
and the angle of depression from the top of the statue to the spotlight is 71 degrees .How tall is the statue ?Your final answer must be an exact value (ie. do not use your calculator).Your final answer may involve fractions, radicals, angles and/or trigonometric functions and the decimal number given in the problem.
HINT: You will need to calculate another quantity first.
[b]Using your calculator, round the answer to [a] to 2 decimal places.
[c] The pedestal is replaced with a pedestal of a different height, with the same statue placed on top of it.The spotlight is moved and tilted so that the angle of elevation from the spotlight to the bottom of the statue is now 41 degrees ,
and the angle of depression from the top of the statue to the spotlight is now 64 degrees…
At 425 feet tall, the Orlando Starflyer is one of the tallest structures in Florida and the
tallest Starflyer in the world, standing 25 feet higher than the Orlando Eye on International
Drive. The image below shows the position of one swing at two different speeds. Which
rider, A or B, is farther from the base of the swing tower?
Rider A
Rider B
O Neither, they are equidistant from the base
