Introduction: Elevated levels of the bilirubin in blood are referred to as hyperbilirubinemia. Bilirubin is formed by the breakdown of red blood cells. When infants are unable to get rid of excess bilirubin, it gets accumulated in the blood and other tissues of the infant’s body. Symptoms appearing as a result of the condition include yellowing of skin, eyes, and other tissues.
