Concept explainers
Interpretation:
To draw electron −dot structure, position of any multiple bonds and lone pairs of the Pregabalin (C8H17NO2), marketed as Lyrica. It is an anticonvulsant drug prescribed for treatment of seizures.
Concept introduction:
Lewis structure:
It illustrates the connectivity of bond in between atoms in a molecule as well as identifying the available lone pair of elections to bonding with another molecule.
Rules to draw a Lewis structure:
Determine number of atoms and type of bond in between atoms.
Determine available lone pair of electrons to bonding with another atom.
Write the skeletal structure of each atom in the molecule. All valence electrons are shown as dots.
Count the electrons in atom and be sure that equal sharing of each atom in molecule.
Except hydrogen all atoms in a molecule must be have an octet.
