Question
Chapter 7, Problem 72AP
Interpretation Introduction
Interpretation:
The change in pH of water should be determined on addition of carbon-dioxide CO2.
Concept Introduction:
pH is a scale that gives the acidic or alkaline nature of a substance. This scale has a value from 0 to 14. A value of 7 is said to be neither acidic nor alkaline but neutral in nature. When the pH value is lesser, the substance is said to be acidic in nature, while when the pH value is greater, the substance is said to be alkaline. pH as such is an abbreviation which refers to Potential Hydrogen or power of hydrogen.
In water, the presence of hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions are equal in number. So the pH value of water is 7, making it neither acidic nor alkaline.
