The method of choosing a random sample for testing the claim.
Answer to Problem 1UA
The preferred method is stratified random sample.
Explanation of Solution
The claim to test is 57% of U.S. adults have an unfavorable impression on the federal income tax system.
For choosing a random sample to test this claim stratified sampling will be the better option.
Because stratified gives a good representative sample of entire population. Using stratified the entire country can be divided into strata like states and states can be divided into districts and this districts can be divided into again small units like villages. From villages the peoples can be chosen randomly.
Also using stratified random sampling the population can be divided into various categories according to job status and or education status.
Choosing a simple random sample from entire population is not a good option. Also, the systematic random sample is not preferred in this case.
Thus, the stratified sampling is preferred.
