Physical components of a disk drive:

Some of the components of rigid disk drive are as follows:

  • Disk platters
  • Actuator arm
  • Spindle
  • Read/ write head

Disk platters:

  • Fixed disks have a control circuitry and some glass or metal disks called platters. It is bonded with a thin film of magnetizable material. The disk platters are stacked on a spindle that is turned on using a motor.
    • The disk platter contains various concentric circles called as tracks. Mostly each and every track on the system contains the same number of sectors.

Actuator arm:

  • The read/ write head are usually mounted on a rotating arm named as actuator arm.
