Question
Chapter 6.3, Problem 4.1CYU
To determine
To show: The variable T is a geometric random variable.
Expert Solution & Answer
Explanation of Solution
Given:
There are two pairs of dice which are being rolled to get doubles.
The variable T shows the number of rolls dice take.
The random variable T is a geometric random variable because
- There are two successes and failures, that is, rolling a double and not rolling a double.
- Rolls are not independent of each other.
- Dice are rolled until double is obtained.
- Probability of rolling is fixed.
Since, all the required condition for a geometric random variable are fulfilled. Thus, the variable T is a geometric random variable.
