Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The reason for the appearance of a clear line between the epiphysis and diaphysis,of a child's x-ray report is to be determined.
Concept introduction:
Bones are the primary skeletal structures in vertebrates. The bones also help in locomotion and maintaining the electrolyte balance of the body. Bones provide support and shape to the body. Some bones contain bone marrow which is responsible for the production of all the blood cell lineages due to totipotent nature of the stem cells contained in the bone marrow. Bones come in many different shapes-long, short, irregular, flat, sesamoid and wormian which have much in common. The growth plate is the region where the growth takes place. The x-ray properties of a child's long bone and an adult's long bone are different.
