Chapter 6, Problem 8TYU
Summary Introduction
To draw: The two eukaryotic cells.
Introduction: Plants and animals are both eukaryotes. They have well-organized membrane-bound structures. A cell contains different organelles. Each organelle has its own specific features. Plant cell walls are the outermost boundary of plant cells that provide shape and protection to the cell. Animal cells do not have cell walls but consist of a plasma membrane. The cell synthesizes and secretes materials outside of cells, called extracellular matrix (ECM) that plays a role in cellular functions and protection.

- Which statement about the cytoskeleton is incorrect? Microtubules are hollow tubes of protein that provide structural support. Plant cells lack a cytoskeleton because they have a rigid cell wall. Intermediate filaments are more permanent structures in cells compared to microfilaments and microtubules. Microfilaments are chains of proteins that resist stretching. Components of the cytoskeleton are often involved with movement of organelles within the cytoplasm.arrow_forwardIn the table below, indicate whether the specified cellular component is found in each type of cell by placing an “X” in the relevant columns.arrow_forwardCell Structures Vocabulary organelle plasma membrane nuclear envelope endomembrane system endoplasmic reticulum (ER) rough ER smooth ER vesicle vacuole lysosome Golgi body mitochondrion Francisca plastid chloroplast chromoplast amyloplast cytoskeleton microfilament flagellum cilia cell wall primary wall secondary wall extracellular matrix (ECM) cell junction 2 Textbook pp MAIN IDEA: Eukaryotic cells have many different internal compartments, called organ- elles.
