Concept explainers
(a)
Interpretation: The best representation of the relationship, from the given graphs, between number of collisions with the container and pressure is to be explained.
Concept introduction: According to kinetic molecular theory postulates,
- Particles present in the gas have consistent and random motion. They collide with each other or the walls of their container.
- Low or high pressure depends upon number of gas molecules collide with each other. It means pressure is directly related to number of molecules.
- The average kinetic energy of every gas particles is directly related to temperature. The speed of gas molecules increases with increase in temperature.
- Molecules having low molar mass will move faster than the molecules with high molar mass.
To determine: If the graph (a) best describes the relationship between number of collisions with the container and pressure.
(b)
To determine: If the graph (b) best describes the relationship between number of collisions with the container and pressure.
(c)
To determine: If the graph (c) best describes the relationship between number of collisions with the container and pressure.
(d)
To determine: If the graph (d) best describes the relationship between number of collisions with the container and pressure.
