External fragmentation:

• Free space that is created in the memory or in the disk space is called as fragmentation.
• The blocks will be available for allocation but it will be too small for being utilized is called as external fragmentation.

Cause for the external fragmentation:

The blocks that are available free will be partitioned into small chunks, the memory space that is partitioned can be a large space but it cannot be utilized even though there is sufficient amount of total memory available will be the cause for the external fragmentation...
