Do you think we should continue to try to prevent the use of performance-enhancing drugs and block the development of genetic engineering techniques that enhance athletic performance? Why or why not?

Expert Solution & Answer

Summary Introduction

To review:

Whether performance-enhancing drugs should continue to not be used by athletes and whether the development of these drugs through the techniques of genetic engineering should be stopped.

Introduction:

PED or performance-enhancing drugs help increase or help better the performance of a physical activity. It is mostly used by athletes. These substances help in muscle building, attaining strength, speed, and managing weight. These drugs are usually taken by people who are involved in the sports.

Explanation of Solution

Performance enhancing drugs have severe effects on the body of the humans. PEDs affect both males and females. They cause impotency in men and females and can lead to a reduction in body fat, breast size, and growth of excessive hair. The effects caused are adverse and are irreversible changes. Therefore, these are not recommended and should be stopped.

Apart from these, there are long-term side effects like the development of cardiovascular diseases, liver problems, and dehydration. They are also a reason for the aggressive behavior. The important thing is that when the drugs are being made in the market and easily available for the people, then people use it. Therefore, it is vital that the development of such drugs should be stopped or restricted.

Conclusion

Thus, it can be concluded that these drugs should not be developed through genetic engineering because they have long-terms side effects. They can harm various organs of the body and lead to dysfunction.

After you feel comfortable with your counting method and identifying cells in the various stages of mitosis, use the four images below of whitefish blastula to count the cells in each stage until you reach 100 total cells, recording your data below in Data Table 1. (You may not need to use all four images. Stop counting when you reach 100 total cells.) After totaling the cells in each stage, calculate the percent of cells in each stage. (Divide total of stage by overall total of 100 and then multiply by 100 to obtain percentage.)   Data Table 1Stage    Totals    PercentInterphase        Mitosis:        Prophase        Metaphase        Anaphase        Telophase        Cytokinesis        Totals    100    100% To find the length of time whitefish blastula cells spend in each stage, multiply the percent (recorded as a decimal, in other words take the percent number and divide by 100) by 24 hours.
