Introduction:
Bones are the primary architecture structure in vertebrates. They provide support and shape to the body, help in locomotion and maintaining the electrolyte balance of the body. Some bones contain bone marrow which is responsible for the production of all the blood cell lineages due to the totipotent nature of the stem cells. Bones come in many different shapes- long, short, flat, irregular, wormian and sesamoid. These bones have much in common despite of their differences. The parts of a typical long bone are: diaphysis, epiphysis, metaphysis, epiphyseal plate and periosteum.
