Concept explainers
To analyze: The closeness of serpentine soil tothe normal soil.
Introduction: Ecotone can be defined as a transition area between two biomes. It is the area where two communities meet and integrate. This transitional area can be narrow or wide, which appears due to the gradual blending of two communities across a broad area.
Explanation of Solution
An ecotone separates serpentine soil and normal soil. In this area, the normal soil is 7-8m apart from serpentine soil. Serpentine soil is different from normal soil. In serpentine soil, there is a high concentration of nickel, chromium, iron, and low concentration of copper and calcium. Plant species found in this transition area are considerably different in this distant short area.
