To confirm the presence of coliform in water, MUG test is done. MUG, 4-methylumbelliferyl-β-D-glucuronide, is used for the MUG media. The water sample under test is grown in this media. If coliform bacteria are present in water sample then it will grow fluorescent colonies in the agar.
