The population size in the exponential growth does not limit the growth rate. Exponential growth is common in two types of situations: (1) when organisms undergo colonization of a new habitat and (2) when organisms recover from a disaster. Organisms starting a new life in a new habitat with plentiful resources grow exponentially.
