Concept explainers
Interpretation:
The Bohr electron configuration and the Lewis electron dot structure for sulfur are to be given and the electrons in Bohr electron configuration that are also in Lewis structure are to be circled.
Concept Introduction:
In order to write the Bohr electronic configuration for an element, we need to find the number of electrons of that element. These electrons are put in orbitals around the nucleus of the atom.
In the Lewis dot structure, dots are used to represent valence electrons. The Lewis structure of an element is represented as dots surrounding the chemical symbol of the element. Each dot is equivalent to one valence electron. The inner electrons are not included in the Lewis dot structure.
