Interpretation: The system and surrounding and the sign of enthalpy is to be defined for the given example.

Concept introduction: The part of universe which is under investigation is called system and remaining universe is called as surrounding. A process in which energy is taken out of system to surrounding is known as exothermic process whereas a process in which energy is added to system from surrounding the process is known as endothermic process. If the energy is absorbed by the system the sign of enthalpy change is positive and if the energy is released from system the sign of enthalpy change is negative.
