Pavlov's research was not focused on learning, but rather on biological concepts. Pavlov discovering the connection between UCS and CS was a fortunate accident of his research on neural receptors. While completing his research, in which dogs were provided with food to study the neural receptors and saliva, Pavlov noticed that the dogs began drooling when they heard the footsteps of the lab assistants who were bringing the food.
