Summary Introduction

To determine:

The two major layers of integuments and their components.

Introduction:

The largest body membrane that covers most of the body organs and cavities is called cutaneous membrane. The skin contains the cutaneous membrane. The skin of humans is also known as integument. The role of the integument is to protect the body from microbes and the external environment.

Explanation of Solution

The integument is composed of two layers. These are:

  • Epidermis:

The uppermost layer of the integument is called epidermis. It is made from the squamous epithelial tissues.

  • Dermis:

The inner layer of the integument is known as the dermis. It lies under the epidermis layer.

The dermis is composed of connective tissues. There are two types of connective tissues present in the dermis layer. These are dense irregular and areolar connective tissues.
