The somatic hypermutation occurs in the germinal center of the lymph node. Somatic hypermutation is the mechanism of a cell that helps the immune system to adapt toward the new pathogen or a foreign invader encountered. The point mutations are generated within the variable region of the segment of DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid), which is expressed in the immunoglobulin (Ig) genes toward the presence of an antigen.
