Question
Chapter 48, Problem 2DAA
Summary Introduction
To determine: How the isotope content of bluefin tuna compared to that of yellowfin tuna in August 2011.
Concept introduction: Bioaccumulation is the concentration of a pollutant inside an organism’s tissues causing the amount of the pollutants to increase over time. Trophic level also affects the pollutant concentration by the process of biological magnification. The concentration of the chemical increases as the pollutant moves up the food chain. Bioaccumulation and biological magnification even in low concentrations (depending on toxic potential) can have detrimental effects on a species.

Marine biology question
6) Just before the beginning of the fishing season you capture, tag, and release 4500 adult cod (Gadus morhua) from the Barents Sea. At the end of the season you learn from the United Kingdom Trawler Fleet working these waters that a total 195,500 fish were taken in the season, of which 1,950 fish were found bearing your tag. From these data calculate the “fishing ratio”, also known as the rate of exploitation, of this fishery. What was the size of the cod population actually available to this fishery at the beginning of the season?
A polluted lake contains 3 x 10' toxic Poisonum nasticum cells per milliliter. Assuming
these grew logarithmically with a doubling time of 10 hr from an initial group of cells
introduced to the lake, choose the equation that would calculate how many cells per
milliliter were originally introduced into the lake 50 hr ago (N¡).
N; = (3 x 107) / 25 cells
N¡ = (3 x 107) × 210 cells
Nj = (3 x 107) × 25 cells
N¡ = (3 x 107) / 210 cells
O None of the above are correct
1) dissolved inorganic carbon such as bicarbonate, is plentiful in the surface ocean.
a- In one sentence, what is the biological pump?
b- What must happen for dissolved organic carbon to get exported to the deep ocean via the biological pump? Describe at least 2 steps

As highlighted in the article “Climate emergency is the biggest health crisis of our time - bigger than Covid” by Pascal Soriot, the climate crisis is not only a threat to the environment but also to global health, making it even more urgent than the COVID-19 pandemic. The article stresses that immediate and radical action is necessary to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as the effects of global heating are already causing irreversible damage to both ecosystems and human health. The climate crisis has far-reaching consequences, including rising temperatures, which are linked to an increase in heat-related deaths. Soriot states that heat-related deaths are expected to triple by 2050, and already, 7 million people die annually due to air pollution. This staggering toll exceeds the death count from the entire COVID-19 pandemic.
