Summary Introduction

Intravenous pyelogram (IVP) is used to diagnose the presence of blood in urine or lower back pain. A contrast material injection is used to evaluate kidneys, bladder, and ureters. IVP is an X-ray test which helps the doctor to treat the patient with medication without surgery. In IVP, using the injection of contrast material into the vein of the patient arm, doctor assess and visualize the function and anatomy of the ureters, bladder, and kidney. The contrast material travels in the bloodstream and collects in the urinary tract and kidney. The urinary tract and kidney appear as bright white when seeing in the X-ray images.
