Chapter 4.5, Problem 73PE
To determine
To calculate: The depth at which the light intensity is half the value from the surface for each body of water given as sunlight is absorbed in water, and as a result the light intensity in oceans, lakes, ponds decreases exponentially with depth. The percentage of visible light, P at the depth of x meters is given by

pan's high population density has resulted in a multitude of resource-usage problems. One especially serious difficulty concerns waste removal. An article reported the development of a new compression machine for processing sewage sludge. An important part of the investigation involved relating the moisture content of compressed pellets (y, in %) to the machine's filtration rate (x, in kg-DS/m/hr). The following data was read from a graph in the article.

If so, and assuming the trend continues, in what year will the number of unemployed reach 5 people?arrow_forwardThe half-life of plutonium-244 is 80,000,000 years. Find function gives the amount of carbon-14 remaining as a function of time, measured in years.arrow_forward
- Table 2 shows a recent graduate’s credit card balance each month after graduation. a. Use exponential regression to fit a model to these data. b. If spending continues at this rate, what will the graduate’s credit card debt be one year after graduating?arrow_forwardUse the table of values you made in part 4 of the example to find the limiting value of the average rate of change in velocity.arrow_forwardSheila's doctor is concerned that she may suffer from gestational diabetes (high blood glucose levels during pregnancy). There is variation both in the actual glucose level and in the blood test that measures the level. A patient is classified as having gestational diabetes if her glucose level is above 155 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl) one hour after a sugary drink. Sheila's measured glucose level one hour after the sugary drink varies according to the Normal distribution with μ = 140 mg/dl and σ = 11 mg/dl.Let X = Sheila's measured glucose level one hour after a sugary drink(a) P(X > 155) = (Use 3 decimal places)Suppose measurements are made on 3 separate days and the mean result is compared with the criterion 155 mg/dl.(b) P(X > 155) = (Use 3 decimal places)(c) What sample mean blood glucose level is higher than 95% of all other sample mean blood glucose levels? Hint: this requires a backward Normal calculation. (Use 2 decimal places)arrow_forward
- Prices of diamonds are determined by what is known as the 4 Cs: cut, clarity, color, and carat weight. The prices of diamonds go up as the carat weight increases, but the increase is not smooth. For example, the difference between the size of a 0.99-carat diamond and a 1-carat diamond is undetectable to the naked human eye, but the price of a 1-carat diamond tends to be much higher than the price of a 0.99 diamond. In this question, we use two random samples of diamonds, 0.99 carats and 1 carat, each sample of size 23, and compare the average prices of the diamonds. In order to be able to compare equivalent units, we first divide the price for each diamond by 100 times its weight in carats. That is, for a 0.99-carat diamond, we divide the price by 99. For a 1 carat diamond, we divide the price by 100. The distributions and some sample statistics are shown below I have attached the questions and the chart in the images section.
