Explanation of Solution

The starch is a polymer of multiple glucose moieties connected via a-1,4 glycosidic linkage. It is broken down into simple sugars during the process of digestion. The process of breaking down of starch is catalyzed by an enzyme known as amylase.

In tube 1, only the enzyme is present, but it needs substrates (starch) to convert it into its simpler constituents. Therefore, starch and sugar will not be found in this test tube.

In tube 2. Only the starch is present, and amylase is absent. Therefore, starch will not be broken down and thus sugars will not be present in this tube.

In tube 3, both starch ad amylase is present, therefore, the amylase will breakdown starch into simple sugar. Thus, sugars will be detected in this tube.
